Stop the Presses -- Army Recruiters Just Sent Us a 'Thank You' Letter -- Uncle Samantha is a Hit

There are some things you just can't predict including the public's response to our website poking fun at the Biden Administration's use of a US military drag queen and recruiting efforts for reaching LGBTQ when recruiting numbers have been so low.

I had no idea that just a few days after releasing the above parody sketched by an illustrator I work with that I would be getting a thank you call from Army recruiters from a handful of major West Coast cities.

All things considered, I hadn't expected a thank you call -- I expected the opposite.

Somehow, some way this poster got forwarded to somebody -- and it's now a poster all over San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle.

Flyers litter the streets.

It's an Instagram page. It's a hit on Tik Tok.

Towering over the boulevard, it drapes the side of a hotel downtown San Francisco.

I don't think they get it.

"We have never had so many calls to our recruiting office in just one week," said an Army recruiter out of California on a phone call to our office. "We just got our annual quota in less than 7 days and they're still calling us. The phone has been ringing off the hook. We get emails. We get all sorts of young people coming through the front door, though a few of them did think they were coming to a drag show and we had to turn them away... No, we are Army recruiters we've had to tell them. Uncle Samantha is just a recruiting tool, kind of like the original Uncle Sam."

"Who's Uncle Sam?" we were asked more than once. "Is that some new kind of Molly?"

The recruiter continues, "To our friends at Survive Any Disaster -- You've done your nation well with this one. Thank you for your service. President Biden's military will soon out number China's."
